Matthew Luca learned the fundamentals of good old fashioned Italian hospitality from an early age. During his professional career Matthew worked in the busy kitchens of many well known Italian Restaurants and later proceeded to further his knowledge at Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Café, Knightsbridge, under the mentorship of Chef Stuart Gillies, learning Michelin standard food preparation and service.
During his period as Head Chef at The Hill Gate, Notting Hill and the Core Grill, Paddington Matthew often invited local celebrities for a cook-a-long in the kitchen. These included comedian Harry Enfield – who wanted to learn how to make his unique prawn cocktail – and other high profile names such as Madonna, Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr., who visited his Organic restaurant in Paddington when filming for the first Sherlock Holmes movie.
Following the birth of his daughter Matthew relocated to Ireland and has begun to find out what makes him feel food the most, “Per la famiglia” – “For the Family”. “It’s not about the fuss of food” says Matthew. “It’s about doing something you love in your heart for the people you care about the most – and Italian food is all about that. Whether you’re kneading focaccia bread or filling ravioli this is something that the whole family can do together and teaches us all the good things in life. Italian food is all about sharing and it’s these memories over the years that I the love most”.
