As part of the Taste of Monaghan 2016 programme, we are organising a 5 km walk to help raise funds for the SOSAD charity.
SOSAD Ireland is a charity whose mission is to help reduce the number of suicides in Ireland, through awareness and campaigns, helping those at risk and those already bereaved.
Their 5 main goals are
- To raise awareness of suicide in Ireland
- To break the stigma surrounding suicide
- To provide support and direction to those feeling suicidal
- To provide direction and support to those who may be approached by someone feeling suicidal
- To provide support for those bereaved by suicide
SOSAD strives to provide the best possible care and support to anyone affected by suicide and/or depression through professional suicide interventions, psychological assessments, counselling and client treatment plans all at no cost.
Sosad have trained, committed volunteers on call for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who may be in distress and in need of professional help and support.
Although registered charity, they receive no government funding and rely on donations and fundraising events. The support from the community and their tireless fundraising efforts have meant that SOSAD is able to continually improve the service they offer.
Registration for the Fund Raising Walk is in the Festival Marquee at 10 am on Sunday 9 October and the walk departs at 10.30am. Registration fee is €10.00.
Taste of Monaghan will treat you to refreshments and Monaghan Gospel Choir will treat you to their fabulous music when you get back to the marquee.
